Day 1: Splash, Play & Roll

Start your morning at Wild Waves Theme & Water Park (Open late May to early November), where rides, slides and laughter fill the air. From roller coasters to lazy rivers, this is the Northwest’s ultimate spot for family fun in the sun. If you’re visiting outside the summer season, head instead to the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center — a world-class facility where you can swim during public hours or cheer from the stands during a local meet.

Next, unwind lakeside at Steel Lake Park & Family Funland, a community favorite with a sandy swimming beach, playgrounds and seasonal fishing. The playground is especially great for kids with disabilities, featuring the nation’s first AbilityWhirl, an innovative wheelchair roundabout that allows two kids in wheelchairs and their attendants to ride among other ability–friendly play items. It’s the perfect place for active fun and to soak up the scenery.

When hunger hits, grab lunch at Katsu Burger, where over-the-top Japanese-style burgers satisfy even the pickiest eaters. Don’t eat meat? Try the organic tofu burger.

After lunch, lace up your skates and head to El Centro Skate Rink for a few laps under the neon lights. Kids will love the retro vibes and family-friendly tunes, and adults might rediscover their inner roller-disco star.

End your first day with dinner at Moon’s Kitchen , a cozy Korean-fusion spot that blends bold flavors with family comfort. From crispy fried chicken and savory rice bowls to shareable sides and refreshing boba drinks, Moon Kitch turns dinner into an experience everyone can enjoy after a day of play.

Dick’s Drive-In

Day 2: Creativity, Shows & Local Flavor

Begin your day at Bricks and Minifigs, a LEGO lover’s paradise. Trade, build or browse one-of-a-kind sets — and don’t be surprised if the adults get just as caught up as the kids.

Next, bounce into action at Catapult Adventure Park, an indoor playground of trampolines, obstacle courses and climbing challenges that burn off energy in the best way possible.

After all that excitement, break for a classic Northwest lunch at Dick’s Drive-In . The menu is simple — burgers, fries and shakes — but it’s a local icon that never disappoints.

Keep the fun going with a few friendly frames at Secoma Lanes, a local favorite where kids can bowl with bumpers and parents can relax with snacks.

In the evening enjoy a performance at the Performing Arts and Event Center, or check the schedule at Knutzen Family Theatre (also known as Center Stage Theatre) for family-friendly productions. Each show offers a dose of creativity and community charm.

Finish your day at Crab and More, a local gem known for its lively atmosphere and hands-on seafood feasts. From buttery crab legs and shrimp boils to Cajun-spiced sides that hit just right, it’s a meal made for sharing and storytelling. Bibs are optional, but highly recommended.

Dash Point State Park

Day 3: History, Nature & Blueberry Bliss

Ease into your morning at the Historical Society of Federal Way, where exhibits tell the story of the area’s early pioneers. Then stroll over to the Historic Barker Cabin and David T. Denny Cabin, open to visitors on select days. The beautifully restored log cabins bring history to life for curious kids and adults alike.

Continue your day with a seasonal visit to Hylebos Blueberry Farm Park. In summer, families can pick fresh berries; in cooler months, it’s a peaceful place to walk and enjoy the scenery.

Pack a picnic for Sacajawea Park, a green oasis with playgrounds, trails and an inviting disc golf course — ideal for family-friendly competition and laughter.

Later, make your way to Dash Point State Park for beachcombing, mountain biking or simply breathing in the fresh Puget Sound air.

Round out your trip with a visit to one of Federal Way’s renowned gardens — Pacific Bonsai MuseumRhododendron Species Botanical Garden or PowellsWood Garden — each offering beauty, quiet and a perfect final family photo op.

Celebrate your final night with dinner at Verrazano’s, where sweeping water views and flavorful Italian fare make for a memorable farewell meal.
